Doctrine of Holy Spirit

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit: The Filling of the Spirit

"It is one thing to become a Christian.   It is another thing entirely to become a Spirit-filled Christian.   The tragedy is that so many are converted and so few Spirit filled.   When this happens, a person misses the best God has to offer us on earth."

John Stott, Ephesians

We need the Spirit to fill us because...

1) These days are evil (Ephesians 5:15-17)

2) It is the Better Way (Ephesians 5:18)

3) It Produces Rich Responses (Ephesians 5:19-21)

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit: In Step with the Spirit

"If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit."

Galatians 5:25 (ESV)

We need to keep in step with the Spirit...

1) To Deny the Flesh (Galatians 5:16-21)

2) To See Fruit Produced (Galatians 5:22-24)

3) Because He Brought Us to Life (Galatians 5:25-26)

The Holy Spirit: The Paraklete

John 14:16,
"And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever."

"If the Holy Spirit were withdrawn from the church today, 95% of what we do would still continue and no one would know the difference.   If the Holy Spirit were withrdrawn from the early church, 95% of what they did would stop and everyone would know the difference."  (A.W. Tozer)  Am I relying on the Holy Spirit for help or simply trying to do it on my own?

The Paraklete is...
1) My Helper (vs. 16)

2) The Spirit of Truth (vs. 17a)

3) Indwelling Me (vs. 17c)

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit: The Spirit and Sanctification

"The Holy Spirit will not enter a man and let him live like the world.   You can be sure of that."   A.W. Tozer

Through the Power of the Holy Spirit, I...
1) Put Sin to Death (Romans 8:13-14)

2) Live a Life of Holiness (1 Peter 1:14-16)

3) Become More Like Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18)
