The Expedition {Vacation Bible School}

August 22-26, 2016 we were privileged to have over 60 children from our church and community join us for a fun-filled week of Vacation Bible School! This year we were blessed to have Carl and Brenda Ens share their ministry giftings with us as they organized both the opening and closing sessions each evening. During the opening session they told the story of a Bible character, such as Matthew the tax collector and John the Baptist, taught a memory verse and sang songs with the kids. For the closing sessions the kids heard the adventures of an expedition from Lower Fort Garry to Fort Carleton and learned some truths about trusting God in all the areas of their lives. This seemed to be the highlight for many of the kids as Carl and Brenda make use of incredible handmade marionettes to tell the story of these prairie explorers! To close off each evening, Brenda told parts of "Pilgrim's Progress" while Carl illustrated the journey to the Celestial City.

In between the sessions was time for crafts, games and snacks! The little ones made a number of smaller crafts, such as painted ceramic tiles and wind chimes. The older girls put together moccasins, and the older boys spent some time outside making tool boxes together. They all did fabulous jobs, and it was fun to see some creativity come to life! We were also excited to be able to use our new area next to the church for a games field! The kids enjoyed running around together playing games such as red rover, tag, and various races. Some unique prairie/western themed snacks were enjoyed after their activities.

Each year during VBS we choose a special Mission Project for the kids to give to. This year we chose to support a building fundraiser to aid the ministry of Becky Kew and Mike Knox who minister out of Sandy Bay First Nation in Amaranth, Manitoba. You can read more about this local ministry here. Every year these kids blow us away with their kind and giving hearts. This year they raised over $750! The following Sunday, our church also took up an offering, and together we will be sending over $2800 to Becky Kew! Thank you to all who shared in this ministry gift!

Many thanks to everyone who volunteered in any way - from donating craft supplies or baked goods, to praying, hosting, decorating, crafts, registration, snacks, etc. Also thanks to Bryan Driedger and MacKenzie Zacharias for taking photos throughout the week! And of course, to those who entrusted us with their children - we enjoyed every moment with these precious souls and look forward to next year!
